Draggin Detroit 2006

Coverage and Photos by: Billy Houston

What happens when Motor City gets slammed with some of the best rides in the midwest? Draggin Detroit - This two day event is not like any other. My roll in on Friday night was met with the normal security issues, boy in lower car, driving late at night, old want-a-be cop pointing a large SUV. The first stop by security, was a friendly reminder that the park is closed and to go home... Knowing Ryan and the guys are still in the park partying, I decided to "shoot the hole" once the security SUV turned the corner. Flying through the lot and around the bend I see the guys, with their camper up and the Ranger low... what a sight to see... I dodge through the caution tape and shut down the Ralliart.

After hanging out late the night before I started out slow on Saturday morning, 10:00am I roll in - and the place is half empty - where is everyone? People start rollin in and the crowd looks OK but nothing big... Most of the day I spend shooting some real sik rides from PMA, and the out of town scene. Everyone says sunday will liven up, but I'm not thinking it will come on everyone knows Saturday is the day.

Sunday roll in at about 10:00 am can't get a damn spot anywhere near the show. The place is packed, rides are coming out the gate and down the block... at both entrances... Damn Wolverines, whats with this state... Doesn't anyone go to church? I notice the crew from Lopez Tire in Detroit and head over to find out about a hook-up, I'm rolling on new light weight 17's and 215/40's. Guys really worked a deal. Then over to check the DropJaw Tent, and shoot the shit with Glen. Things look different for him today, I can't even get to the guy his booth was rockin so hard... whats with the damn John Deer shirts, thats yellow and green is loved though out this state. The quality of the rides the day before was nice, but the sunday drivers had some killer shit... An awesome Civic on 20's, a pair of Astro's, and tons of other rides, you couldn't find the end of the field... I think people were still trying to roll in a half hour before awards.

Big shoots out to Ryan and Crystal for making me feel at home - your both good friends. To the best pit crew from Lopez Tire, you hooked my shit up in 20min. from start to finish. The crew at DropJaw, always a blast to hang for a bit. The crew from Altered Visions for loan of the girl and your ride and everyone else at the Red Roof - except the fucker that pulled the fire alarm at 2:00 am.
